Rural and workforce agencies
Rural and regional roles are often in Distribution Priority Areas or Area-of-Need positions, the most direct way to satisfy the 19AB moratorium. These agencies and colleges list such positions.
Billing and income

Moving from provisional to general registration, the RACGP fellowship routes (FSP and PEP), and what supervision looks like along the way.
Keeping your home registration
Your home-country medical registration is independent of AHPRA — many doctors keep it for the first few years for return optionality.
Migration support
When a migration agent may be helpful
Many doctors find a registered migration agent helpful when navigating complex situations such as:
- Complex visa situations or transitioning between visa subclasses
- Skills assessment complications or appeals
- Dependent applications with specific requirements
- Prior visa refusals or compliance matters
Find a registered migration agent
Migration agents in Australia must be registered. Search the official register before you engage anyone.

Pause or defer
Pausing is a reasonable choice. Many doctors take time to decide.
What to keep current
If you decide to pause your application, these documents and registrations have expiry dates you should be aware of:
- Certificate of Good Standing: from every regulator you are or have been registered with, sent directly to Ahpra by that regulator and dated within three months of Ahpra receiving your application. Source
- English language test results: generally from within two years before you lodge your application (some exceptions apply), for example IELTS, OET or PTE. Source
- Primary qualification documents — keep originals safe
- Police clearances — validity varies by country
When to revisit
Life circumstances change — this pathway will still be here. Whether it's family commitments, career considerations, or simply wanting more time to decide, there's no rush.
There's no deadline — your pathway will still be here whenever your circumstances change.
